Stepping aboard Harmony of the Seas for our first Oasis-class cruise was nothing short of overwhelming—in the best possible way. This floating city truly lives up to its reputation as one of the world’s largest cruise ships, offering an experience that feels more like visiting a massive theme park than a traditional ocean voyage.

A Ship of Staggering Scale

The numbers alone are impressive: 18 decks, 24 restaurants, several pools and hot tubs, and 2,747 staterooms and suites. But what makes Harmony special isn’t just its size—it’s how thoughtfully that space is utilised. From simulated surfing and zipline to an ice rink, rock climbing walls, and a thrilling 10-story dry slide, the entertainment offerings are truly bewildering in their variety.

Our standard balcony cabin provided us with endless, beautiful horizon and sea views. The stateroom was thoughtfully designed with comfortable seating areas and surprisingly generous storage space—a crucial feature when you’re living out of a cabin for a week.

Entertainment That Delivers

The onboard entertainment ranges from intimate acoustic performances to full-scale Broadway-style productions like “Grease,” and it’s all simply outstanding. We discovered early on that some musical acts rotate between different venues, so once we found our favourite band, we made it a point to catch their performances throughout the cruise. This variety is exactly what makes cruising special—having access to top-tier entertainment without the hassle of booking separate venues in different cities.

Dining: A Mixed Bag

The dining scene spans the full spectrum, from quick grab-and-go options at the Windjammer buffet to elaborate multicourse culinary experiences at the specialty restaurants. While the food quality ranges from good to excellent, there’s a clear distinction: the extra-cost venues consistently deliver superior experiences compared to the complimentary options.

What We Loved

Endless Activities for All Ages: Whether you’re seeking adrenaline-pumping adventures or relaxing poolside activities, this ship delivers options for every interest and energy level.

Exceptional Crew Service: The staff consistently impressed us with their friendliness and attentiveness. We rarely had to wait for service, and the crew’s positive attitude enhanced every interaction.

Outstanding Entertainment: The rotating musical acts and large-scale productions provided nightly highlights. Finding our preferred performers early in the cruise allowed us to plan our evenings around their schedule.

Efficient Embarkation: While embarkation day inevitably brings crowds and some chaos, Royal Caribbean’s process is remarkably well-organized. Clear instructions and excellent crowd management make what could be a stressful experience surprisingly smooth.

Areas for Improvement

Limited Poolside Dining: While the ship offers numerous dining venues, poolside food options feel limited. Mini Bites serves decent Mexican fare, but we craved more variety in casual poolside eats like burgers and pizza.

Missing Adult Pool: Unlike other Oasis-class ships, Harmony lacks a pool in the adults-only Solarium. While the main pool areas never felt overcrowded—even with plenty of children around—having a dedicated adult pool would have provided a welcome retreat.

Embarkation Day Intensity: Despite Royal Caribbean’s excellent management, embarkation day can still feel overwhelming due to the sheer volume of passengers boarding simultaneously.

Final Thoughts

Harmony of the Seas delivers on its promise of being a floating resort destination. The ship’s massive scale allows for an incredible variety of experiences, from heart-pounding adventures to peaceful relaxation. While there are minor areas for improvement, the overall experience showcases why Oasis-class ships have revolutionized modern cruising.

For first-time Oasis-class cruisers, prepare to be amazed by the scale and variety. Just remember to pace yourself—with this much to see and do, you’ll want to plan your days carefully to make the most of this floating wonderland.
