Chincheros Ruins

Ollantaytambo, Peru

Cobblestone street with colourful flags
about this place

Chinchero is a quiet spot in the Sacred Valley, sitting at a higher altitude than Cusco. It was once a royal estate for an Inca emperor, so you will see massive stone terraces and carved walls. There is also a colonial church built directly on top of the palace foundations.

The town is famous for weaving. You can watch locals use natural dyes like crushed insects to color wool. It is very peaceful now, but a large international airport is opening nearby in a few years, so it is best to visit soon.
