Red brick mansion with turrets
about this place

If you are visiting Galveston, you should check out this large house from 1895. You can walk through 20 different rooms to see how one of the state’s richest families lived. Almost all the furniture and items inside are original. It is one of the few big buildings that survived the 1900 hurricane.

You get an audio device for a self-guided tour. It explains the history of the rooms as you walk. There is also a garage on the grounds with several vintage cars to look at.

Travel Serie

Texas – Western Caribbean

This series follows our journey to Texas and beyond, starting in Houston and Galveston before boarding Harmony of the Seas for a Western Caribbean adventure. It’s our first time sailing on an Oasis Class ship, and our first time exploring this corner of the Caribbean, so everything feels a little bigger, louder, and more curious than usual. Before the cruise even begins, we spend a few days wandering Houston and Galveston—eating well, poking around local spots, and easing into travel mode—then it’s off to sea to see how this mega-ship and this region live up to their reputations. Big ship, new destinations, first impressions only.
