Royal Beach Club Santorini

Ships usually leave PortMiami in the late afternoon, so check the port's schedule for departure times. The pier has almost no shade: bring sun cream and water.
South Pointe Park fills the southern tip of Miami Beach, with lawns, palm trees, a beach and a walkway along the water. Its pier reaches out beside Government Cut, the deep channel ships use between PortMiami and the open sea.
That is what makes it special before a cruise. In the late afternoon the ships leave port one after another and pass close enough to the shore to wave to the people on deck. We came the day before our own sailing to watch one go, and nothing built the anticipation better.
The park is free, and from here it is an easy walk up the coast to Ocean Drive and the rest of South Beach.
The best free thing to do in Miami the day before a cruise. Find a spot on the pier and watch the ships sail out through Government Cut.

Location
South Pointe Park is at 1 Washington Avenue, at the southern tip of Miami Beach, about twenty minutes' walk south of Ocean Drive.

This series follows our seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Icon of the Seas, round trip from Miami in May 2026. We gave ourselves two days in Miami before boarding, then sailed to St Maarten, St Thomas and Perfect Day at CocoCay, with three sea days to get to know the ship.
