Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a historic estate on the western shore of Biscayne Bay in Miami. The main house, a Mediterranean Revival villa, was built around 1914 and draws on Italian Renaissance architecture in its design, decorative details, and overall arrangement.
The formal gardens extend across the grounds surrounding the villa and include fountains, sculpted hedges, grottos, and stone ornaments arranged in a structured European style. The estate also features a decorative stone barge anchored just offshore, serving as a breakwater for the villa's waterfront terrace.
The villa itself now operates as a museum, with its historic interiors open to visitors. The collections inside reflect the tastes of the estate's original owner and include European antiques and decorative arts spanning several centuries.
